Coverage
Is treatment covered? The honest picture for Canada.
Three doors pay for treatment here: the public system, extended-health plans, and employee assistance programs. Most people have at least one and don't know what it covers. This page says what's typical — and the check below tells you what's true for you.
Is addiction treatment covered by provincial health insurance (OHIP, MSP, AHS)?
Publicly funded treatment — detox, some residential programs, outpatient counselling — is covered when you access it through the public system, usually with a wait. Private programs generally are not. Which door is right depends on urgency and what you can wait for; a navigator lays out both honestly.
Does extended health (Sun Life, Manulife, Canada Life, Blue Cross…) cover rehab?
Often partly: counselling and psychology have annual caps, some plans cover a portion of residential treatment, and some carriers direct-bill with certain providers. The details are in your plan booklet, not on any website — including this one. We tell you what that plan type usually covers and which programs work with it.
What is an EAP and can it get me into treatment?
An employee assistance program is a confidential benefit through your employer that typically covers a set number of counselling sessions and can refer onward. It's often the fastest first door, and using it doesn't tell your employer why.
Do you contact my insurer or ask for my policy number?
No. We never contact an insurer and we never ask for a policy number — the provider you choose does that at intake, with you. We only need the carrier and how you get the plan.
What if I have no coverage at all?
Then the public route is real, not a consolation — provincial lines and subsidized beds exist in every province — and some private programs offer payment plans. Say so in the form and the navigator starts there.
Extended health or an EAP?
Check what your plan might cover — before you call anyone.
Tell us the carrier and how you get the plan. We don't contact your insurer and we never ask for a policy number — a navigator tells you what that plan type usually covers for treatment in Canada, and which programs direct-bill or fit without it.
Never sold to data brokers or advertisers. In a crisis, skip this: call or text 988.
Where you stay in control
Every introduction waits for your yes. A single reply of STOP closes the file for good. Your details reach only the licensed providers you approved — never data brokers or advertisers — and are deleted when no longer needed. Should nothing genuinely suit you, we'll tell you plainly and point to the public route. And in an emergency we step aside: 988, any hour.
In crisis right now? Call or text 988, any hour. Not medical or insurance advice — plan documents and intake teams decide coverage.
